Characteristics of Organic Matters in Influents and Effluents of Sewage Treatment Plants in Gyeongsanbuk-do

Objectives : This study aimed to provide scientific information on the characteristics of organic matters in influents and effluents sewage treatment plants (STPs) Gyeongbuk province, Korea, for better performance processes plants.Methods We selected six STPs with each capacity over 30,000 mZ3/day analyzed water quality data from 2013 2020. Also, removal efficiencies pollutants were assessed operational data. In 2020, origins dissolved (DOM) investigated using fluorescence excitation emission matrix (FEEM) analysis.Results Discussion The average BOD5/CODMn ratios 1.60 0.27, respectively. High variability was observed both effluents. CODMn/TOC same an 1.6. Although biological process different STP, matter efficiency similar, TOC 86.5~91.7%. representative spectra DOM identified through FEEM analysis peak C (humic-acid like substance) region, under carbon concentration (2 mg-C/L) intensity stronger than possibly due influence soluble microbial products (SMP). It found that influent effluent originated microorganisms, difference statistically significant.Conclusions fate similar regardless plant location. results this can be used as basic efficiently control STPs.
